For some reason I have a feeling that Jiwoo' s mother is Veramont's none awakened daughter, and who ran away with her lower rack awakened lover. Since Jiwoo's mother didn't possessed any awaken ability Jiwoo inherited his father's awaken abilities. And that's why Jiwoo and Ian look related and don't have similar abilities because they are cousin.
