I did think it was weird for the mc to get involved with a guy he knows nothing about except that he was getting beat nearly to death. I understand that since the guy was being assaulted, no matter what he did, he was the victim in that situation and the mc wanted to help the victim... but i guess its just super naive of him to think that he was an innocent victim all while having no information on the guy. I really hope that this is just building up to a plot twist that the ml doesnt know about yet, and that the guy isnt entirely a bad guy, just because it feels a bit anticlimactic to find out that the guy he knew nothing about except for the fact that he was getting beat up turned out to be a bad guy deserving his punishment, which was predictable
