And I think the title is just telling the story in the lens of the people at that time and what they saw: The Flower Goddess and the Barbarian King.

Hell we have Korean BL series about Psyche, a woman from Greek mythology turned into a man and have multiple love interests/ men pining for him. We also have Ennead, a korean BL incest about Egyptian gods and godesses. I think this is a similar case.
