This part in the novel needs to be rushed because it really doesn't add anything in the whole story besides having empathy towards Zhenya. It really doesn't serve anything. If anything, towards the middle of the novel, where Zhenya is saving TJ from missions OPPS spoilers that's where we could've shown the childhood story or Zhenya having ability to have human emotions
