why make the protagonist of a BL straight? just to make him suffer? magically he's gay?

he's surrounded by beautiful men but he's not enjoying it one bit because he's straight, idk I think they could have at least made him bi. He was basically raped the first night... he didn't refuse but he didn't say yes either... he didn't really have a choice. Sad and kind of boring tbh
