But when someone points out that a character's behavior is disgusting, manipulative, abusive, or just badly written, fucking address the criticism instead of going “you're immature” or “you're probably 14.” That's not a counterargument, that's just you being unable to defend your shit without attacking the person saying it.

They don't have to praise the ML, excuse every fucked-up thing he does, or pretend the writing is suddenly good because it's fiction. If the criticism is wrong, explain why it's wrong.
