This! I feel like so many authors forget this aspect when they chase this trope that it’s like, hello?? Literally their entire character backstory, how can you expect someone to transition into an entirely different body/life and not address their previous attachments?

Sadly the manhwa adaptation doesnt do these characters justice.. the novel explore their personality, past, and struggles more than the manhwa
The novel explores his struggles and inner conflict after finding himself in a different body, while also showing how he comes to enjoy the benefits of his current life. It goes into much more detail about who he was before and the relationships he had with people from his past life.
The story focuses almost entirely on the emperor and the concubine growing closer and rebuilding their relationship. There really isn’t much political drama or any major power struggle during their time together, aside from the conflict involving the previous emperor. Overall, the story is actually pretty straightforward.

The characters shallow. I wish there was a bit more depth to them. Like does mc never miss his old body how fit and healthy he used to be? What about his past goal in life and all the work he had put towards it? Didn’t he have any old hobbies he truly enjoyed? Is he not lonely, bored, or feel suffocated in the palace being extremely limited. I wanna get to know him but we never see his past relationships with anyone or his past core memories that’s mainly related to him. His whole being kinda revolves around the emperor, not leaving much for personality (◞‸◟；)
