Perhaps. He definitely has a soft spot for Yuu. So far, he really enjoys his company. I guess we'd get more Chiaki lore in the upcoming chapters. He's still a mystery to Yuu.
I think some pages in the latest chapter are missing, there is a scene with a cat who dies and Chiaki and some of his friends are staring at the body and everyone is sad except chiaki then he runs away and the older guy finds him crying about the car and they hug
