I'm not excusing anything (mainly because I am quite literaly saying I don't think it's queerphobic in the first place).
And since you opened that door, if you don't want to see things that were common in medieval europe, don't read media set up in medieval europe and get all butthurt about it.
Fantasy and fictional works are still suposed to follow rules and conventions of the place and time the author has taken inspiration. It's called Narrative plausability and context expectations.
I'm also extremely in favor of timeperiod dramas being acurately depicted to reflect the reality of the time. Censoring things that actually happened because they are no longer acceptable only errases those issues.
