Why did I even read the novel? That's a good question. Curiosity I guess? Black flag MLs don't really bother me all that much given that what they do is treated seriously at some point. My problem with it and the reason it left me feeling so unsettled was the, frankly bizarre, blend of torture inflected on the MC by the ML with all the fluffy feelings shared between them? Starting fairly early on and toned to the max in the side stories, there's this strange melancholic vibe to it? I don't even know how to describe it, all I'll say is that it really doesn't matter what the ML does because the MC forgives him (or just lets it slide) every time.
Mild spoilers: Nevermind the rape, breaking both his legs? Caging him (in a crate not a room)? Microchipping him? It's all treated as inconsequential by the MC. In fact he's more bothered when he believes the ML thinks he's not hard working.
