Honestly this scene being the way it is perfectly balance the two. Niether of them a “green flag” or adams in distress. No one is a saint and a villain. Both are equally crazy, violent, twisted and thats why they are perfect. If they want goody two shoes, plain ass characters they should read the bible. (And what will our literature be if all characters in every is plain jane and superman)

“If the roles were reversed” Then yeah, obviously people would shit on Grayson He was already abusive toward Chase even if he genuinely cared about chase and he just got some deeply rooted issues he still made chase go through hell and he literally kidnapped and imprisoned Dane. If he also raped Dane, people would absolutely drag him for it. Like please, let’s put our thinking caps on for two seconds. The roles being reversed doesn't suddenly create some hypothetical moral dilemma when the story has already shown us both characters doing fucked-up shit.
