Like, what the fuck are these people saying? “It’s fiction, why are you so worked up? Just drop it. Don’t read it. You’re such a crybaby, are you 14? You just can’t handle it.” Bro, these are such recycled arguments.
We’re the readers. Authors make these stories for an audience, so obviously readers are going to complain when something they don’t want to see gets thrown into a story, especially when it’s completely unexpected. I genuinely can’t even count how many times we have to ask, “Does this BL have SA?” because it has become THAT common. At this point, you have to go looking for shounen-ai just to avoid it.
And just because authors have the freedom to add SA doesn’t mean readers want it. People have become desensitized because authors keep throwing it into stories and everyone is expected to accept it. The same people saying “it’s fiction, it doesn’t affect reality” are literally the ones telling everyone to “get used to it.” Bro, if you’re so desensitized that SA barely bothers you anymore, just admit it. You can’t argue that fiction has no effect while simultaneously telling people they should become desensitized to it.
And yes, we KNOW it’s fiction. Nobody is confusing fiction with reality. But the fiction is still about HUMANS, human relationships, and human experiences. It’s not some alien creature getting raped where we’re supposed to have no reaction. “SA is part of the genre” isn’t a defense either. Just because authors keep using it doesn’t mean readers have to accept it or shut up about it. If readers consistently criticized or dropped stories over unnecessary SA, maybe authors wouldn’t keep treating it like some mandatory BL trope. Let people fucking complain.
I know you're worked up. I used to get like this too. BUT GIRL leave it. We can't do anything about it . I just move on now. If i don't like it..meh whatever i don't read bcz what will i gain. I don't let into my emotion. Bcz we can only complain, will they listen? No. Can we fix? No. Even world leaders are full of shit. They like to keep to their beliefs without room for question nor improvement. So for these arguments, it's best to leave it be since you can't do anything about them...

The problem isn’t just the existence of SA in fiction—it’s how normalized people have become toward it. If readers keep saying nothing, keep reading, and keep accepting it, authors have even less reason to stop using it.
Look at what happened with Go For It, Nakamura!—when readers pushed back over the shota implication, there was enough backlash that the adaptation was dropped, and the author even addressed it and apologized for how it was portrayed. That’s the kind of pressure I’m talking about. People need to be able to say, “I’m not comfortable with this, and I don’t want this in the story,” instead of being told to shut up or leave the genre.
Because if we keep normalizing everything without criticism, the genre is only going to keep getting darker and more extreme until people barely react anymore. And THAT desensitization is the actual problem.
People saying “if you’re complaining about SA, don’t read yaoi” are so weird. Like, just because SA is common in the genre, are we supposed to become desensitized to it too? That’s literally what you’re implying. There are already tons of BLs that use this trope, so why is it such a problem for readers to say they don’t want THIS story to go down the same route? We’re not “crying babies” for not wanting a character we’ve been rooting for 60+ chapters to get assaulted by the same ML we’ve been watching him fall for. Just because authors keep using SA doesn’t mean readers have to accept it as some mandatory part of the genre. If you’re fine with it, good for you, but don’t act like everyone else has to be.
