the way people have talked about this story has given it so much injustice. especially ruans character. i went into this blind assuming the worst cause i thought he’d be a mindless toxic twink, but he genuinely had so much fucked up issues happening in his life that he developed a habit of seeking some form of control in his life and mental illness since he never was given the chance to do anything for himself, especially finding solace with colden who was the first person in his life to ever give him any sort of freedom.
now, was ruan a piece of shit for what he did to coldan? yes. but was that his intent? NO!! colden literally explores this with his own character, he doesn’t forgive him, he doesn’t let ruan forget what he did to him, showing him how miserable he is by all these sudden changes and coming back into your best friends life in such a traumatic way. ruan is so emotionally and socially stunted he couldn’t even process what colden was feeling, and cue the fucking control habit again, never left his sight.
i think at the end of the day, the parents need to get the lashings the most.
