They started the bakery so why the fuck not actually show them building it, expanding it, living their lives, and eventually adopting a kid? Boom, you have an actual family storyline. And if the author desperately needed angst, there are plenty of real struggles gay couples can face—social pressure, adoption, raising a child, etc. But nah, apparently none of that is dramatic enough.
