We’ve got CIPA representation!!!! I’m so mad yall lied to me. Yall said it was good and decadent but this was straight up god tier. Straight up one of the best (if not the best) short yaois I’ve ever read. The fact that a super rare and niche disability is being represented and we have a soft-for-his-lover feminine looking masculine acting uke and an even-softer-for-his-lover masculine looking feminine acting seme is perfect. God I love them! I like how uke just understood seme and seme is so protective and affectionate. I cannot state how incredible this read was and I only wish I can be struck with amnesia of this manga so I can reread it for the first time all over again! I hope this author writes more about their life in America and I hope they write more rare and niche disabilities!
BTW for anyone wondering: CIPA is congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis. It’s exactly how it’s described in the book. You are born without the ability to feel pain or regulate temperature and a lot of babies end up dying due to it. It shows up like SIDs so we don’t actually have a true figure of how many kids were born with it but the ones who grow up past infancy show signs of recklessness. They often don’t feel fear either since most fears humans have are self preservation fears and they stem from not wanting to be hurt. A fear of heights because falling hurts. A fear of spiders and snakes because they bite and bites hurt. A fear of the unknown because the unknown can hurt us. They typically don’t have that since they can’t feel hurt. They also can’t regulate strength so they hurt themselves and others unless they are constantly monitoring their surroundings. I don’t know exactly if science has figured out WHY children are born like this (outside of it being a genetic mutation) but there’s no cure. There are treatment plans available but it’s more so to help manage the mental side of things like learning what an appropriate amount of strength is or stuff like paraffin wax treatment (under the care of a professional) for joint care and skin health. It’s a fascinating medical condition from the outside looking in and a heartbreaking diagnosis for the person who has it. I’m glad more people are becoming aware of rare congenital conditions like this!
