Getting straight to the point: in looking at this issue clinically: A single instance of attraction isn't a diagnosis of pedophilia. Clinical diagnosis (of pedophilic disorder specifically) requires recurrent, intense sexual urges/fantasies or behavior over a period of at least 6 months, and clinically significant distress or impairment, or the person having acted on the urges with a non-consenting person and Age gap alone isn't diagnostic criteria. The diagnostic frameworks look at the age/developmental stage of the person the attraction is directed toward, not the age gap between the two people.
Showing the DSM-5 Categorization of Pedophilia: Pedophilic Disorder (DSM-5) • Classified under paraphilic disorders • 6 month period of recurrent, intense, sexually arousing fantasies, urges, or behaviors involving sexual activity with a prepubescent child (< 13) • Has acted on these urges or they cause distress/interpersonal difficulty • Age 16 or older and 5 years older than child
Due to now connected space we currently have, people are now aware to pedophilia resulting to numerous child sexual abuse results, the awareness of bad actions to others is a good thing and myst be encourage to bring in awareness. But also with the term now circling around, people have tendency to loosely use specific terms with categorization words that should not be thrown off so lightly. It is so-called SEMANTIC DIFFUSION or SEMANTIC BLEACHING — related but slightly different: a word loses its original intensity/specificity through overuse.
My whole point is we should never throw in words to lightly at heavy issues and crimes against humanity.
