I forgot their names so bear with me, but I did read the novel.
In the past, the emperor wanted to become friends with the white haired dude. Even though they had conflicting views. The white haired dudes wife broke up with him and ended up falling for the emperor. The emperor also loved her but wanted to become close with the white haired man. So he didn’t accept her at the time. After some time, the emperor finally worked up the courage to befriend the white haired man, he didn’t expect it but he accepted to be his friend and aide/attendant. Then the white haired man asked the emperor why he didn’t accept his ex, that it was fine to marry her since he knew he loved her. Little did he know that he was testing him, the emperor was excited to marry the love of his life. The white haired man started to avoid the emperor, not spending time with him anymore. During that time, the empress started to experience poisoning attempts, assassination attempts etc. everyone knew who was doing this, even the emperor. The emperor was so naive to realize why.
The white haired man confessed to the emperor (before being beheaded) that he did everything because he loved the emperor. Richard was shocked upon hearing that, he didn’t think that was the motivation but then it all made sense to him.

As the white haired man was about to be beheaded, the emperor was shot with an arrow, instantly killing him. Smoke filled the place and the white haired man disappeared amongst all the confusion.

After the spider incident, Richard goes back straight to the guild master giving him the berries to complete the potion. Then he goes back home, but the green haired prince was no where to be seen. His brother (I think) told Richard that he left with Daphne. Of course, Richard left IMMEDIATELY, he was afraid that the Prince was going to seduce Daphne but he was actually telling her straight, “don’t get close to Richard” acting like a jealous boyfriend. Richard was taken aback and dragged him back to his estate. Now that Richard has the potion, he can go and infiltrate (vilmar?) white haired man’s house, transformed as the emperor (lol). But that didn’t trick vilmar, he actually let them slide and get the empress’s corpse. After that, it was the emperors birthday party. So the corpse would serve as a great gift, upon confirming with the emperor that he had the corpse. The emperor was happy and couldn’t believe Richard pulled through with his promise. A little later into the party, everyone started giving the emperor gifts. The emperor just treated that like a “meh” type of gift until it came to Richard’s turn. Vilmar was behind him, encouraging him. Richard was so confused why he was giving up his life line like this. Because the emperor was going to kill him straight away. The emperor was very happy, amused even, and accepted the gift. Suddenly, someone crashed into the party. There was an ominous aura about the man, it was the crown prince. He brought in a corpse, a dragons corpse. The emperor lashed out “what is the meaning of this?!” while the crown prince explained the dragon was a gift, it was a rare and hard find. The emperor accepted it (but he didn’t want to at the same time XD). The crown prince flared at Richard, knowing that Richard left him stranded- anyways to cut the spoiler short because it feels like I’m telling a whole story now, they have a sex scene after this lol

Unfortunately it was a cliffhanger kind of- for me as well… because the site I was reading from was taken down, I don’t even know about Vilmar’s whereabouts after that incident when he disappeared
