Little disappointed

I read some of this in 2020 and thought it was peak, now I've just read it all the way through. Back in 2020 and still now I think that Saharah was the better partner for Suu. Idgaf, they're just a cuter couple. It's probably the "The Summer Hikaru Died" fan in me that's saying this also, but damn, if there's a monster infecting a human with theirselves, transmitting their powers or what have you, then that relationship is automatically better to me. The idea of two people transcending normal mortality and becoming "one", is deeply interesting, since in so many romances like these there tends to be a divide between human and monster.

I wish the author had explored this more than they had. There's always a part of me when reading stories that demands the protagonist gets corrupted by evil (When I was little I always wanted cartoon villains to win, very nice to see I'm still thinking this way). I know Suu killed people - why haven't we spoken *more* about his struggles with mortality? Is it difficult for him to come to terms with? I know he doesnt care about people dying if they get in his way, but is there *any* part of his newfound status as "not-quite-human, not-quite-dragon" thats influencing his decisionmaking? Making him more worried, making him less worried about murder?

I just wish they'd leaned more into the monstrous status and the varieties of ways the romance between Suu and Saharah could've therefore played out. At the end everyone seems to have forgotten that Suu is lowkey a demon dragonoid. Talk about it!!! When is Saharah going to eat him??

Also, Saharah was just nicer to him, idgaf. I mean, I do gaf, but not really. Hwaryun is a different story I could go off on a tangent about, how their dynamics work. But I guess in the end Suu is just stuck in a lowkey threesies with two dudes just like him who kinda can't feel anything, ever, who each have their own priorities over one another. But...saharah;;;; I mourn him, truly, poor guy. Ik Suu couldn't have stayed with him because he still wanted to retain some parts of his humanity but I sure wish he'd just let it go. Fuck everyone up, man!! Hurt everyone who's hurt you!! Get eaten by a dragon, fuck a crown prince then poison him, destroy that damn palace and then maybe do some monsterfucking with a dragon if you feel up to it!! Damn!!

Get revenge!! Revenge is a Very human thing to do, if you're interested in retaining your humanity!! Do it and actually get it DONE this time!

Anyway. It is my opinion that Suu should've been more fucked up and evil and leaned more into the side of himself that's very obvious throughout the story, which doesn't care terribly for others or their lives, and ideally he would've done so with a monster he's "become one" with - i.e., Saharah would represent that which his human self finds truly repulsive, yet it is his human side as well which desires the elimination of those that doubt or block him from achieving what he wants.

Suu, never stop monsterfucking. You're a freaky dude for sure, but you gotta block out the haters (yourself) and keep doing what you do. Be who you ARE...Kiss Saharah. Marry him. Be evil. I beg of you.

Tangent over xoxo
