wow i finished all of this... in the span of a week... 116 chapters just gone in a blink. this story not only give me a satisfying conclusion of everyone's lives, but also made me question mine. for a story about immortals and gods, it sure talks of mortality and humans frequently— and so vividly at that. i always cried during the most intense moment, or even just an ordinary panel.
the former emperor's fleeting happiness, how he made a hat for their child in case they got cold, and only being able to give it when they've finally grown too big. how he kept the empire's peace for centuries as that was his dear's final wish. and how he kept the moon bright when his son would sneak into the palace library at night.
biseol's desperation and unwavering loyalty, how even after everything, he still chooses to follow yeon and devote his ever eternal life to the person he loves. and how he aches, how heavy the weight of the love he bears. how he was all too willing to live a life as neither human, nor demon, just to protect yeon. i found that to be admirable and a little bit pitiable.
doha's fiery determination in pursuing yeon, even when he didn't know what he felt towards the other. how he gave his everything. when he trekked through that prison, when he himself became imprisoned, when he tried to run away from everything, and when he finally faced all of it fearing that it might've been the last time to do so.
hamil... well i feel bad for him i guess. all kidding aside, he really is the most unfortunate of them all, and the most despicable also. imagine coveting someone so much you'd want to entwine them to all your lifetimes? at first i couldn't really blame him, he was but a child when he made that deal with the demon and he was merely led astray. however at some point, he was making his own decisions well into adulthood, so then it was entirely on him. i think he had a well deserved end. and a very generous beginning.
the head priestess, how i adore her. though her pure and innocent love truly moved me. i have no more words to describe how i feel for her as a character. she truly is admirable.
the rest of the princes' gave me wonderful joy. seeing their contrasting personalities, growth, and different moralities, sure made me ponder.
choran's righteousness and hae-eon's twisted flippancy were polar opposites, yet they still worried for the other in every trial. a-yeon and jeongwon's estrangement left me inconsolable lol. glad they all made up after the trials. the 19th prince i forgot his name but he's also come a really long way.
what use is eternal life? just how short can a human's lifespan be? how excruciating is immortality to those whose love has already ended? and how is an eternity ever enough to devote your love to someone? they all say it is never enough.
everyone was always desperate for something— or rather, someone. the author did well in conveying that all consuming desire. it made me realize that love is a beautiful driving force that helps someone live.
"for an eternity, for a few years, even just for tonight" i find that to be so devastatingly beautiful. a fervent wish. a desire to hold onto something one last time, even just for tonight.
"my yeon" "my spring" "my flame" "my snowflake" "my love" "my daughter" "my god" "my protege"
yeon, just like the people that you have loved in your story, your kindness has also reached my heart. your flame burns through everything and warms everyone and everything that surrounds it.
yeon, through your survival, you have given me hope. to live despite everything. to love despite the fears of everything. to be human, throughout it all. and especially, to cherish everyone that comes to our lives, may they be passing by, or staying for good.
yeon, i hope the rest of your eternity is filled with nothing but happiness, love, and warmth.
