Kinda... at first he really thought he was a human stuck in the painting... then he believed he became kinda like a ghost painting... but still thinks of himself as human... as that point is like..."I'm a human because I believe I am one"... and slowly even in denial he knows he's a god... initially because the sun god passed his "godhead", kinda his authority as a god to him... so he had to accept that he is at least partially a god...
A couple people already know who or what he is... but his identity makes it possible for him to become anything... and it's more them dealing with a super powerful and unpredictable deity... that insists they are human...
