Oof I went ahead and read the raws until season 2 ch 19… theoretically I am slowly getting used to the art style. It’s different but actually still very beautiful. I tried to do some digging why the art style changed (unrelated: recently there has been an uproar of a publishing company replacing the artist and putting the bald basically on the art style, and they are replacing all the old chapters. Anyways people are speculating they use a nice art style to lure people into reading and then change the artist or smth when people are hooked. Long story short, it didn’t seem that way hahah) Apparently this is already the third attempt at adapting the original novel from 2003. The first 2007 adaptation was cancelled because of too many complaints about the art style not fitting (I also read in the comments that the artist made some story decisions the author didn’t approve of?). The second 2011 adaptation was also canceled because they didn’t follow the original story and added elements that were not there, now we have the 2023 version. Until end of vol 1 I think mostly everything was okay? But did see some comments summarizing the story changes they’ve done. Anyways, apparently there was more than one could see at first glance ^^‘ Apparently the Maranello Emperor Guy was not bald in the original?? They also changed the background story of Charons wife, to a less tragic one, but I can see why they did that. Anyways I am contemplating if I should continue. I didn’t read the original so I don’t have strong attachments to it, but I do think that adaptations should always stick to the original. As a novel ready I would be very sad if they changed fundamental things in the adaptation. So in this case, the white tiger demigod has a appeared and turns out they were a woman! They explained smth about yin and yang and stuff but since I was Machine translating it, it didn’t make much sense. According to the comments I believe the readers aren’t happy because the adaptation changed the gender of this character, which also has a big role in the story. Anyways so I’m torn… I’d also be upset if they changed the gender of a character, I don’t know if others understood this feeling. I remember seeing how they wanted to make a live drama for 2ha and planned on changing the male character, who plays quite a big role there, to a female character… I was also quite upset :( Not that female characters exist, just that they wanted to change such important things? It feels like it’s completely replacing a character… anyways so yeah, I guess this novels adaptation always runs into some kind of problem haha
