aside from the obvious issues with these two "parents":
i'm kinda glad the empress isn't the reason for the MC's lifestyle. usually in these stories the step-mother empress/queen is usually a bitch who intentionally mistreats her step-kid and makes their life miserable.
she ain't great but i'm glad she at least seems in the dark and apologetic about MC's situation.
already knew emperor daddy was unaware, so i'm more surprised that he'd never visited the MC's living area himself before. i thought he knew the MC wasn't treated the same as the other princes but just not the extent of his mistreatment.
