I love that it's NOT a misunderstanding of events or that Kailus is just a misunderstood hero that's doing everything for good reasons. Even though he doesn't realize his genuine feelings of love for Hazel, he still does plan to kill her and he did deceive her to do it. She's not naïve or crazy or saw something because of bad timing, she is vindicated in running away.
The plot is so good. Hazel is funny and quirky and genuinely intelligent. She loves her husband and never denies that she does, she just wants to live and live comfortably. It's what drives the choices she makes.
Kailus is compelling as a very intelligent and calculating character who is not a good man. It's what makes the moments with him so comedic- he has no understanding of himself.
