This is one of those rare cases where the novel is actually better than the adaptation. You should definitely read the novel—it’s much more detailed and everything makes a lot more sense.
I really wish they had shown more of the scene where Wooyeon completely loses it because he’s terrified of losing Inseop. He hurts himself, then starts throwing up because he thinks he might have hurt Inseop, and that’s when he finally has this realization about his feelings. They barely showed any of it in the adaptation, so the whole thing felt really underwhelming, unfortunately.
There were also so many beautiful details they left out. Before coming to America, Wooyeon worked insanely hard for the Actor of the Year award simply because Inseop mentioned that he wanted to see him holding the award. And because he had become so deeply attached to Inseop, he even put all of his assets in Inseop’s name so that Inseop would always have a reason to stay connected to him and wouldn’t be able to completely leave him. Since he couldn’t take Inseop’s last name or have a child with him, this was basically the way he found to create a permanent bond between them.
And then there’s the fact that he started going to therapy regularly and taking medication specifically because of Inseop…
Those details added so much depth to Wooyeon’s character and to how deeply attached he was to Inseop. I really wish we could’ve seen more of that in the adaptation.
