Thats a toughie. Normally is an easy character to emphatise with BUT author did show us her real self from the start. Im not saying she deserved any of those. But from the beginning she has a flawed personality of being greedy. She could've choose to be content with life and manage her expectations. Even if shes a fallen noble she by no means "deserved" to be still or become one. After all why her? Why does she deserve have that life but others dont? Right? When you think about it, rich ppl expecially from old money are just born lucky while normal folks you and me are just lucky to be born. So when i read this is kinda hard to feel sorry for or root for a character that despise her class/standing (feels out of touch for me as a reader) and is not even a decent person in the first place.
Yh I never rooted for her, bcs at the end of the day, she stole a baby and never even bothered to take care of him or give him any love. She’s crazy and I would never call her a good person.
…But if you put yourself in her shoes, wouldn’t you feel some sort of sympathy (before she did anything crazy)? Like, regular folks like us never were born w that kind of possibility of wealth. But imagine this: you were born into a rich family, but before you could properly bask in the wealth, your family sinks financially. So instead of being able to use that kinda privilege only 1% of the population has, you’re living as a servant doing chores to satisfy the said rich people you could’ve been. Wouldn’t you feel bitter? Wouldn’t you try other ways to live a lavish life? So you find ways like marrying a rich person, but that doesn’t work out. Then you get married to some Baron, hoping things would get better. But no. He turns out to be an asshole and proceeds to you. That’s not all, you get PREGNANT from that . You try to abort it, but that bitch of a son REFUSES to go. You give birth reluctantly and honestly, I’d completely understand going insane after going through all that. So the last thing you do is at least let your son have the chance at a better life (an INSANE thing to do btw). They grow up to become snobby (but rich). What do you get after giving a better chance for your kid? Death. By your own child

I jst started reading and ooohhh my days. I feel so bad for Rana. She was born through noble birth, but she was stripped from any chance at a lush life. She wanted a better life, tried, but failed. Got married to a nasty man, got , got pregnant and couldn’t even get rid of the baby. Then to later on get WHIPED to DEATH by her OWN CHILD. Y’all—she ain’t perfect but dang yo
