I'm so sorry for being such a bother, but Hyung name is Yunseong. Beom is the name Geonpil gave to the tiger because he know that Beom's not Yunseong. He doesn't feel right to call him "Hyung".
And yep, i agree with your points. I also find Geonpil annoying, but he doesn't deserve that much of hate. I won't validate that his doing is right, but that's just how he is. That's the way he lives, yeah i'd really hated if i have a friend like him in real life. But i always liked seeing this perspective of a kind of fucked up in mind characters.
I've always find this kind of mc interesting since i know this kind of story might probably ends either with a character development or they just die as a consequence. The story's just so sad and depressing that i can't really hate anyone here. It's not that i feel related with Geonpil either tho-- haha. I'm sorry, i write too much...
This is going to be long, and a bunch of rambling, yet here’s my take on the situation.
I don’t hate Geonpil, nor do I think he needs or should have to die. The dudes annoying, no arguments there—and he does have some role of responsibility in the reason that Beom is dead, and why everything has reached the mess we’re in now.
Him denying the truth, both with his personal feelings and Beom and his relationship before he died, and with Beom’s actual death, and his willingness to face everything going on around with Beom’s copy. However, he didn’t kill Beom.
That was 100% his decision to go up to that mountain, and it was his choice not to hold the relationship to healthy boundaries, so he is equally responsible. He chose instead to relish in the scraps of the broken affection that left him feeling frustrated at the absence of what he was trying to manipulate. (Yes manipulate, giving someone care and looking after their life with the intention of potentially getting something back like an acceptance and reception of feelings is manipulation.) Then he died in an accident.
No one could have predicted that happening, and even if Geonpil had been there, there is very little he could’ve done that would have saved Beom. It was and would’ve been all up to fate.
Finally. Beom’s copy, he did nothing wrong. It may seem he did because we see murder as something that is wrong, and I’m not conceding that it isn’t, but what I am saying is, Beom is not human. He doesn’t operate from the moral function we do. That’s like lion eating a hyena, or us eating meat. He is an apex predator to us. A literal supernatural being. Plus he comes from a mountain that literally created him to do this, and yet he goes against his nature for Beom.
Maybe he was trying to change, even in a broken and clumsy way. He just genuinely wants to be loved. Dude was breaking against his nature with Geonpil so many times, because he also wants to be loved. Just as these other two do, in their own equally twisted ways.
In my opinion. This is all just very sad,fucked up and well written. I hope it Geonpil actually handles his shit. Not just for his sake but for the other two involved, so they can get some closure and resolution; and that it doesn’t end with Geonpil dying. The living should live as long as they can.
