i read the rest and it was the teacher the entire time. i knew it didn't make sense with dan's character to kill innocent people. he's slightly better than the teacher. yes, he was a bit of a bully and a sadist, killing wasn't his thing till after his first love was murdered, he felt scorned by the original killer. the teacher manipulated them all, even dan was lost in his own personal investigation at one point. i don't think dan's actually dead either.
