Well, there isn't an official manga based directly on the anime version, but the story is inspired by the humorous detective novels *Fugō Keiji* (The Millionaire Detective), written by Yasutaka Tsutsui between 1975 and 1977. There was a single-volume manga adaptation in 1985—illustrated by Shun Sekiguchi—that was based on the original 1970s novels, not the modern anime. The anime itself is a modern, loose reinterpretation of the books, featuring added original characters (like Haru Kato) who didn't appear in Tsutsui's text ,:[ Honestly, it still kills me that the franchise didn't catch on and died out; I still think it's really good.
