Yes the manhua doesn’t rlly show the characters depth but I think if u read the novel it goes more into depth about the characters, i.e., how guilty hwawoon(Hawoon) felt and how it ate him up inside bc he was a “lowly person” who didn’t deserve the emperor’s love(kinda made me frustrated) and how the emperor changed from someone who didn’t believe in love bc of how his mother acted to someone who is helplessly in love with the person he used to hate(but not rlly bc that “hwawoon” is alr dead). I kinda expected this from bl manhua’s tho, they don’t rlly go into depth about the characters. I read the whole novel and I enjoyed it a lot! Literally read it in like two days, kinda short and that’s what I hated about it. Felt like the ending was kind of rushed, definitely some plot holes that need to be filled like how the emperor mentioned that he will need to tell Yeon Juwon (OG MC’s body’s dad) who “Yeon Hwawoon” really is but it never occurred bc it ended…or Will they tell the empress or the other concubines, or will it js be the three of them(the emperor, MC and Seocheon(MC’s guard friend)) who knows the secret. I rlly like the concept of the harem not fighting each other for the emperor’s love, i rlly love the empress as well, if women were allowed to lead she would be a good leader. If u want a more complex story like mdzs or svsss or other danmeis, this is prob not ur cup of tea, it focuses more on the two main characters(duh) more like a light read where u don’t have to use a lot of brain power! Overall it was a great read (to me) I definitely need side stories tho (pls pls)
