I’ve always seen this novel recommended along side other really popular Korean novels but always put it off because of the tags and cuz I’m so bored of the “Oh I reincarnated into a extra I better let the plot move on its own- wait- why is the plot changing from the original?!” Type of stories. But after catching up on the manhwa I can definitely see why now.
The biggest thing that appealed to me was the fact that the author didn’t find a 3rd way out of the whole brother situation. Normally story plots like that would get the protagonist to suddenly get a item or a skill that allows them to cure this demon thing and achieve a ‘everyone is happy’ ending for that plot point…but the author didn’t. He didn’t find a 3rd solution, everything the Mc planned to do in this plan came into fruition, there was no ‘happy accidents’ and I love that.
Also I love the ‘changes’ to the plot that the Mc experiences because they are all very realistic changes a reader would want. The goal of the ‘author’ and the goal of the ‘reader’ in this instance is very clearly different. The author(Mc) created the world around the OG mc and his crew while the new author did the opposite, they forced the protagonists to keep up with this new world instead of building around him.
And lastly, the thing that I love the most about this story is the characterization of the Mc. At first I thought he was another one of those ‘Know it all, can do it all’ type Mc and he kinda was at the beginning but what really separated him from those other mcs were his inability to choose and how it absolutely tore him apart. He wants to go home, he thinks he should go home, but that’s not what his heart is choosing and it’s confusing him. But if he doesn’t choose to go home his choices that he made here would probably squish him alive. And this is something that the author is doing well, allowing the reader to think and be conflicted about problems like these with the Mc instead of just providing a obvious solution that you know the Mc is going to choose.
Anyways, idk what the author is gonna do for later parts so maybe I praised too early or something. Novel time (づ￣ ³￣)づ
