I think for me it's hearing X deaf character (or just disabled x abled in general). Don't get me wrong there are definitely good stories out there about it, but sometimes it's a bit eh. It's just the way they portray deaf characters sometimes is just based on insecurity and never really talks about deaf identity or culture. Also always making said characters lipread..not all deaf bother to lipread or even know how to, I also hate it when they're always insecure of their voice (valid though, but really a lot of deaf like me who can't actually talk don't really care that much.) which is fine, because there are deaf who don't like their voice, but I just see it so much it just becomes annoying. This isn't just deaf characters but the way a lot of other disabled characters get portrayed. I think a good example of this is a sign of affection, it's a good shoujo romance and I love it, but it does have a lot of stereotyping in some areas of Yuki's character. I don't know, maybe I'm being a little dramatic..I just wish deaf culture was talked about more in stories.
