1. Honestly I too thought that maxi sneaking into the war was stupid af so no arguments there
2. Maxi didnt choose to go with her father, her father basically threatened her into going home and everyone else thought itd be fine cuz they still didnt know about the abuse at the time.
3. Maxi was always trying to communicate, but everytime she did, riftan would always shoot it down because it always had to be HIS way, I agree that some of maxi's decisions were stupid, but the way riftan is, prevents maxi from healing from her trauma and reclaiming herself in the process.
4. The princess approach maxi with the idea first and maxi knew in her heart that if she told riftan before the hearing he still would've pushed for abandoning his land for maxi. If I was in her position the thought of basically destroying my partners life's work the guilt would eat me alive. If you compare it, one person would be affected vs a whole community having to suffer its not a hard decision. If maxi becomes a mage they'll only have to endure 3-4 years just maxi and riftan, meanwhile if riftan were to abandon his lands not only would his lands be affected, his people would be too and thats irreversible.
I am disappointed with Maxi eversince she started to follow Riftan in war. I like how she is learning what thing she likes, deciding for herself and finding her purpose. But she is always making big decision on something that can negatively ruin them. It become a habit everytime she is anxious on something. In my persepective Riftan is always cleaning a mess!
She decided to follow on war try to hide to him as much as possible becuase she is worried on him. Its ok if Riftan doesnt see her as long see see him? Bullshit. Doesnt she think Riftan miss her? And then she doesnt like Riftan being protective on her when cat is out of the bag? Man needs to lead a war and an assurance that his wife was safe is his saving grace but there she is, actively participating on war to prove her purpose. Again its a good thing but she is not respecting Riftan and trying to understand his side until the very last moment which leads to the a tradegy.
The next is her going to his father becuase she feel unworthy again becuase her baby is gone. I know postpartum is hard but she decided something again on the heights of her emotion without thinking the consequences. She ignore people around her! When worse thing happend and she regret her decision that is the only time she told Riftan her story and side. Inshort, Riftan just learn who she is becuase that is the time she open up.
Now on the present, The mage guy already said she should sleep and not decided on being a mage. They explained to her that Riftan leaving anatol was the worse scenario. But low and behold instead of communicating to Riftan her worries before sleeping the first thing on morning was talk to the princess.
It is indeed not healthy how Riftan was overly protective, walking away and giving Maxi silent treatment but I see it as his only outlet to the circus of decision maxi doing.
We are on Maxi’s POV so imaging hugging your wife the night and the next day she is telling you to that you will not see her in 4 years (3 years if she works hard) because she will be a mage so that issue will now be fix. I will lose my shit too! Im ready to rage a war but decided to go to court becuase I respect my wife to do it in a legal way on not losing her. But she will be gone for 4 years.
This is frustraing I fucking hate the miscommunication of these two!!!
