Rant. I genuinely don't understand why the story is like this. It's not even really the rape that's the issue, it's just everything. Like how Ilay is able to get away with burning down a forest, killing and raping colleagues at the same position as him, committing A TERRORIST ATTACK ON ANOTHER COUNTRY?? Ilay has free reign to do whatever he wants and not get any consequences whatsoever. Why? Is it because his brother owns a big weapons company? Yeah, his brother does. He doesn't. And I doubt his brother likes him. Is owning a large weapons company enough to get you out of being an internationally wanted terrorist? Doubt it. Taeui is apparently why Jaeui is still alive, and yet he receives no protection while Jaeui is the most sought after, smartest guy ever. Amazing. I also don't really understand the luck thing. Now, the rape. There is so much rape in the story, but that doesn't automatically make it bad. It's the treatment of rape. While the rape is happening, you can see Taeui screaming, crying, resisting, but as soon as it's over, everything is glossed over. Did this take a toll on Taeui's mental health? What is Taeui thinking after being violated in this manner after just accepting his feelings? Is he scared? Disgusted? And it's precisely this glossing over Taeui's feelings, that makes people find the rape in Passion much more palatable as compared to the rape in similar stories. Remorse? Redemption? None. Whatsoever. Again, this alone, might not make a story bad. But the issue is that Passion believes itself to be a serious story in the genres of psychology, romance, mystery etc. It TRIES to have sensible politics and then throws it all away in the name of Ilay. It TRIES to be psychological and then throws it all away to make Ilay more attractive. That second novel introducing Christoph, who has an aversion to touch and then subsequently having him raped by Richard? Great. Why was this necessary again? Ilay apologises to Taeui that time Yuri saw them. So what does he do to improve on this? Take Taeui's pants off in front of Richard, knowing he's unwilling and doesn't want to be in that situation. Impressive. If you're going to make a story like this, make it an unserious, slop kind of story. It might actually be funny. I know some that have some of these issues, and they don't really ruin anything for me because the story isn't taking itself seriously and it's all for the shits and giggles. Sorry for the long rant, it's just frustrating. Also, this isn't to criticise anyone that likes Passion. Just to criticise Passion. It's totally fine to like Passion kings and queens, I'm just talking about it as a piece of literature. Entertainment value is different and subjective.
