I didn’t even think it was necessary to threaten him, because if we look back at the scene where Guwon was in the bathroom alone, thinking about how Teach was the first person to actually have the guts to tell him what’s right and what’s wrong. And when Teach told him he was wrong this time, Guwon admitted it right away and even thanked him for helping him realize that he was in the wrong.
The fact that he would even cry when Teach got scared of him made me realize that he’s basically just a big guy with the mind of a kid who only knows violence. He’s not even well educated from when he got the lowest score on the worksheets for the kids. Like bro doesn’t even know what a ring finger is or whether kissing in public is embarrassing. He seems so naive that it almost feels like he genuinely doesn’t know what’s right and wrong. He’s just learning everything from what people tell him and from his own experiences.
For example, when he mentioned that there was a situation where he allowed people to use the medicine however they wanted, which eventually resulted in a kid or other people dying later, I think that experience affected how he handled the situation with Woojoon’s father stealing med. After what happened before, Guwon probably thought he needed to be more strict about the med and the law bc he didn’t want the same situation to happen again. So when little Woojoon got sick, Guwon didn’t allow them to use too much medicine, obviously, he didn’t understand how serious the illness was. From his perspective, he was trying to prevent another situation where there wouldn’t be enough medicine for other people. He just never considered that the kid could die if he didn’t receive enough medicine.
I do think he genuinely cares about people. It’s just that, for him, everything comes down to survival. He thinks that if people who are guilty of crimes aren’t punished, there will be more crimes in the future, and that would eventually lead to more people dying. And of course, that’s the last thing he wants, considering how much he’s been through and how many times he’s sacrificed himself and gotten hurt, for God knows how many times, just to keep these 40 people alive and safe.
Like he said himself, this town means everything to him. So I think we should understand that he really is trying his best to keep everyone safe and let them live as peacefully as possible, even if the way he goes about it isn’t always right. The problem is that the strong body he uses to protect these people doesn’t just have pros, it also has cons. He’s physically huge, good enough at fighting to beat basically anyone, judging by how the whole HOUNDS crew worships him and he’s also very violent. He can use those traits to fight other people when he goes out to get supplies for everyone, because in an apocalypse, everyone needs to fight for food and other resources. That part makes sense.
But he also ends up using those same traits to intimidate the people in his own town. Because he’s so physically powerful and violent, no one ever dared to speak up against him or tell him when he was wrong. And even if they did, no one really knows whether he would actually listen or not. Instead, they just became more and more scared of him over time, and eventually grew to hate him more and more.
That’s why I think he needs someone who can guide him and, in a way, act as both a parent and a lover to him. Because if he actually receives love, I think he’ll learn how to love people properly and, more importantly, actually listen to them like how he listen to Teach. And honestly, I can totally see him becoming that loving big guy who eventually learns to do the right thing and doesn’t just kill people for no reason if Teach atleast try to be that person for him instead of planning on killing him (I totally understand that it’s hard for him to live someone who’s that violent and apparently cruelly killed your father so the story lines turned out this way
