how did she end up in a fridge

im wondering how her mom ended up dead… did she die because the dad abused her or was it overtime from her injuries? But then mc could’ve reported him and sent him to jail for that.. I think that’s why she’s waiting until turning 18 so she doesn’t have to go into a orphanage if he goes to jail
