yeah i agree with you, and i think a genuine desire for them to be together beyond just headcanon is very strange and even antithetical to the kind of story that's being told here. i think it'd be fine for them to be friends again and attempt to heal from that hurt, but songrik could never have done for jinhyeong what uyun has done for him because he wasn't equipped to be able to provide the kind of support he needed the most, and jinhyeong also would've been unable to do the same. like you said, they were codependent. relationships with that status are like bandaids over a gash because they'll never be able to properly address and solve the problems they have. they needed more than just family figures in their lives; they needed people to show them how they could change and that it was possible. i really don't think they could've done that for each other, at least not adequately.
soo ive been seeing a lot of discourse on X that they want songrik back and to be with jinhyeong but am I the only one who doesnt want songrik back? like I get that it was doomed yk but from what I see, sometimes having no closure is the closure, and their story ended already. so I dont get why ppl are begging for them to be together bc honestly idgaf (uyun forevs) it captured how codependency can be toxic like, not every relationship needs to end with them finding their way back to each other, especially when the whole point was showing why they needed to let each other go
