This story is shockingly progressive? I didn't even realize how low my standards were until I got here– The main character has his moments of seeming kind of petty and frustrating because he will sometimes refuse to explain his feelings when directly asked and seems to not have a ton of patience or empathy for his partner. However, he has enough moments of realizing that he's in the wrong and being able to verbalize that immaturity that I can forgive him as a reasonably flawed human being whose emotions can get the better of him, but who does mean well in the end
Outside of that, I think it's really fun that this story will do things like have a main character who's not ashamed of being kind of a freak in the sheets. The consent is so enthusiastic, plus our ML scored a lot of points from me when he brought up not wanting to have unprotected sex until they were 100% ready for kids. I also appreciate the introvert representation because goddamn if this main character isn't literally me anytime I go anywhere
That said, i think the one thing that kind of threw me was that they felt like they had to have a tragic accident be the reason why the ML is autistic. I know they weren't using those words, but I dont know how else to interpret it. I also think some of the frustration I have with the MC also comes from the fact that the ML's tendency to verbalize his thought process and feelings in order to help make up for shortcomings in social awareness is extremely familiar to me, and I too cannot comprehend why other people can't just use their words to answer at times. Plenty of people are kind of just like that without having had brain injuries, so I'm still very on board with this story, but I guess you can't win them all
