I asked someone for novel spoiler abt this before but they said that even in the novel its vague (?) like he is human but also not , i think its bcs the purpose of the story is exactly that we would never really hv an answer of what he is .
Thats why the title is a called " the 'painter' who draws dungeon " bcs , eventho he might not be human or god , or a root , he is a 'painter'/'artist' and will always be an artist in any shapes or form .

Oh i just wanted to know if originally was he a human. Right now he certainly is not. The more I read the story, i found myself believing the other character description of jio. Aka a abnormalities or monster or more like a god. Like the past is so blurry or maybe cus we read once a week

Iirc , in the early chapter he said that he is human , He was in a burning building and said he 'awakened' (which is why he became a portrait) saving him from death . but yeah now im not sure if he was actually human either lol since it was told from his pov TwT like what if he was actually a root (?) from the start and all that was his imagination , or what if he actually did die in the fire and that was not hos awakened power but he became a root instead ?
