At the beginning, Joohwan sees a news report suggesting that Si-hyun is engaged to a wealthy woman. He initially assumes it must be a misunderstanding, but the possibility unsettles him because he has become deeply attached to Si-hyun.

When Si-hyun wakes up, Joohwan jokingly tells him that he panicked after seeing the news. Instead of laughing it off, however, Si-hyun calmly confirms that the article is about him: he has indeed become engaged and expects to marry the woman.

Joohwan is devastated. He had assumed that their increasingly intimate relationship meant they were lovers. He realizes, however, that Si-hyun never explicitly said that he loved him or considered them a couple. When Joohwan asks whether Si-hyun loves him, Si-hyun seems genuinely confused and asks why love matters if their relationship can continue after his marriage.

This destroys Joohwan's understanding of their relationship. He realizes that what he considered a romantic relationship may have been, from Si-hyun's perspective, primarily a sexual arrangement. He feels humiliated, rejected, and betrayed.

Instead of confronting his heartbreak directly, Joohwan's emotions turn into anger and cruelty. He begins treating Si-hyun harshly during their sexual encounter, essentially using the sexual dynamic between them as a way to cope with feelings he cannot express. The more Si-hyun accepts his treatment rather than reacting with the anger Joohwan expects, the more disturbed and emotionally overwhelmed Joohwan becomes.

A particularly important point is that Joohwan wants Si-hyun to hate what he is doing. He wants some evidence that Si-hyun cares about him emotionally—that Si-hyun would object to being treated this way or react to losing him. Instead, Si-hyun continues responding in ways that reinforce Joohwan's fear that their connection means something completely different to each of them.

Eventually, Joohwan becomes overwhelmed and realizes that he needs to stop before things go too far. But just as he tries to pull away, Si-hyun unexpectedly breaks down and reacts intensely, leaving Joohwan shocked. The chapter ends at this moment of emotional and physical escalation, with their relationship reaching a dangerous breaking point.

After Si-hyun breaks down, he desperately asks Joohwan to keep seeing him, insisting that he can give Joohwan whatever he wants and even promising to give him all the resort's advertising work. Joohwan realizes that Si-hyun clearly has strong feelings for him, despite insisting that love isn't necessary. Joohwan finally tells him directly that he loves him and asks him not to marry and to date him instead.

Si-hyun then reveals more about his family situation. His family agreed to the marriage because they see him as someone they can use, rather than as a beloved son. He explains that his family deliberately built up his public image so they could later expose him as incompetent and use the resulting scandal as a reason to remove him from the resort. His position as the child of his father's mistress means that, despite being part of the family, he doesn't feel genuinely accepted as a son.

This also explains why Si-hyun is willing to sacrifice himself through the marriage: he sees being useful as more attainable than being loved. Later, he admits that he went so far to protect Min Joo-young's advertising campaign because Joohwan had looked genuinely happy while working on it. He didn't want Joohwan to be disappointed or struggle, so helping him was his way of expressing affection.

Joohwan eventually reassures him that he doesn't resemble the father Si-hyun associates with rejection and reminds him that Si-hyun underestimates his own worth. He explains that the advertising project Si-hyun was jealous of actually meant something to Joohwan because, while making it, he was thinking about giving Si-hyun a ring.
