As someone who just binged the entire thing from start to finish, this is actually his character. He had no growth from start to finish.
I think that was the point of all this and the comparison between his friend and ML; it’s ambiguous if they really enjoy it or if they’ve had to adapt to pain due to their circumstances. What the man did to his friend wasn’t BDSM and what he did to ML wasn’t BDSM, it was sexual violence- which happens “when you’re upset.”
Feel like this is out of character, no way he would see his friend getting abused from bdsm and then go and do it to sihyun just bc hes upset.
