People saying riftan is abusive, relationships are very complex and what we see are two people who were heavily traumatized. Riftan obviously had terrible abandonment issues and holds a strong anxious attachment to maxi. I hold very similar feelings. Maxi is similar but expresses it in a different way. She also has abandonment fears but wants to constantly prove her worth so tighten doesn’t leave her but they both undermine how much they truly love each other because of their traumas . I love this story for how real and raw relationships can be like. Especially for this time period. I don’t agree with riftan being portrayed as abusive. It’s clear as day he deeply loves Maxi but handles his emotions poorly when it comes to her out of fear. I can’t wait for his POV to come out. Again these characters are very complex and it shows the realities of many relationships especially when the people have to deal with their trauma. I’ve been with actual abusers and this isn’t abuse. Can we not toss that word around so lightly???
