I don't understand why readers hate this story. The characters feel more real than in other stories.

She is timid and innocent, yet she still tries to make a way for herself and keeps moving forward with the meager resources at her disposal.

He has power and money—inherited over generations—and enjoys them to the fullest without a thought for others. That is how he was raised, and it is made clear to him that he must not stray from the path laid out for him.
He benefits from the established system; she is merely a cog in it.

It’s detestable, but that’s the game.

He’s no worse than some ML who are malicious. His servants are devoted to him. His family likes him.
