I often imagine 'others' with the person I like, it can be a person or any situation that you actually want yourself to be in but you can't, it can be due to fear of certain things or the reasons can vary, so I'm 100% sure Malocen imagination where he said "in my imagination i could see him dance beautifully with the real grand Duchess" shows he actually wants to be in that position as the "real grand Duchess".
