haven't bothered to read the new season [particularly] closely and haven't kept up with the feedback, so take this with a grain of salt, but i'm very pro-author-do-whatever-the-hell-you-want-with-your-own-story. i don't think any author owes anyone a particular trajectory.
that said, there is something a little strange about taking a story that ended on a fairly tidy note and reopening it years later in a substantially darker/more dramatic direction. it starts to feel less like "there was more story to tell" and more like "this property is still monetizable" lol.
which is admittedly a somewhat cynical interpretation; perhaps bamwoo genuinely had more they wanted to explore. i'm not particularly interested in litigating the author's intentions, but i do wonder if they are trying to tell a somewhat different kind of story at this point. darker, more taboo, whatever, which cbaw has obviously flirted with before (ifykyk), but they're still confined to the existing framework of cbaw and its already-established characters/plotlines. if this is the kind of story they want to write, why not just write a new one (yes, there is commercial logic to continuing the most recognizable property you've already established an audience for. i'm not naïve about that lol. but it does make the whole thing feel artificial/bait-y)
you can continue a work indefinitely if you want, i'm not opposed to that on principle but i'm also not convinced every loose thread needs to be pulled until the entire sweater comes apart lmaoo. sometimes you can simply let the thing end, allowing a thing to simply remain finished is artistically valuable, etcetera
