Then the empress always being second place will make her hate Perez or Lombardi (maybe she'll despise them both). She might into a typical villainess and blackmail/brainwash her son (crown prince) to take down Lombardi similar to the previous empress

Imagine them not getting together (obviously that won't happen, but just imagine for a second). And then he has to have an empress.
Tat poor woman would always be 2nd place. Never chosen, not really. Living in a shadow of someone else at least in marriage. And that someone she would need to see quite often due the status. Horrible.
Then again, that is a political marriage for you I suppose.
