No its moreso he went soft because he was doing it with someone that WASNT the ml in a way that doesnt satisfy himself anymore, and so then he couldnt get it up. If you see earlier he got hard at the thought of ml sucking him off instead of the other guy
I actually like the mc more with the gym guy. Let him be hurt from a past relationship and don't cross his boundaries, it ain't that hard. Also I assume that going soft at the thought of someone means more that you don't like em then wanting them up your ass.
