It's because the ML clearly has poor understanding of his own feelings, so he has no way to properly communicate it. In contrast, the MC is perfectly aware of his own feelings, yet he chose not to say it, making assumptions about ML, and then placing the blame on ML when things go wrong. The drama would have ended in chapter 1 if the MC just confessed his feelings. The story wouldn't have been dragged for this long.
