We have two scenarios here, depending on what the author wants to convey with this story.
If the author sides with the "righteous," we’re in for a terribly disappointing ending in the next chapter or two: Big Guy dies, Teach wears the ring and protects the city, all the ungrateful, weak-ass morons live happily ever after, and the Hounds—wounded in attachment issues—scurry off with their tails between their legs. Boring.
If the author sides with adaptive rationalists, we’re in for an exciting rollercoaster ride where Big Guy survives, and Teach sheds his "white coat" and the robes of the Grand Moralizer to either embrace his dark side OR teach Big Guy to see the world differently—more, God forgive me, "morally"—and they live happily ever after and fuck every day.
Either way, I’m rooting for the second option; if the story ends with the moral of "oh no, we drove the bad guys out of their home, toppled a militaristic-totalitarian regime, and now we’re going to build a civilized society," it would be such a massive letdown.
