The reason he even went with Jo to visit Jo's aunt was because he believes that TJ didn't need him anymore because he made his own decisions to get involved in the organization conflict for TJ but TJ didn't want him to get involved and endangered him so he ghosted Ian and in hope that Ian will get his "freedom" because he thought Ian feeling was stemming from guilt. He doesn't even think of Jo while being with TJ. The bathroom his thoughts is basically just "damn I'm a terrible person for dragging Jo knowing damn well I still love TJ." The stars...there is no profound deep thoughts of Jo. The most thought he had is probably " Oh damn didn't the dude name Jo told me about this. Let me tell TJ." No one is even excusing of him of his flaws it's the fact y'all are either withholding or forgot a lot of little details of what he said.
