Like, let me give you an example. Sometimes you see a BL where the MC is actually the asshole. He’s sleeping with different men, treating the ML like trash, and doing whatever he wants. And somehow, at the end of everything, the ML is STILL the one who falls for him, falls harder, starts yearning for him, and ends up chasing him.
Like, I genuinely don’t understand.
Because when the ML is the toxic one, it’s the same thing. The ML is an asshole, the MC is the saint who keeps tolerating all his bullshit, and eventually the ML falls harder and becomes the one chasing the MC.
But when they make the MC the toxic one instead, somehow the ML still becomes the saint who tolerates everything and STILL ends up chasing the MC.
So what actually changed?!
It’s literally the same dynamic with the roles switched around. The ML is ALWAYS the one who ends up yearning harder, chasing, suffering, or falling hopelessly for the other person.
Why can’t they just let BOTH of them be a mess?
If the MC is going to be an asshole, then let the ML be an asshole too. If the ML is going to be toxic, let the MC be toxic too. If they’re both red flags, LET THEM BOTH BE RED FLAGS.
And if they’re going to fall for each other, let them BOTH yearn for each other. Let them BOTH chase each other. Let them BOTH be obsessed. Let them BOTH be the ones who can’t let go.
I’m tired of one character always being made more likable while the other gets to behave terribly, and somehow the same person is ALWAYS the one being chased in the end.
I don’t need one character to be the saint and the other to be the asshole. I just want two flawed peoeple who are equally obsessed with each other.
I’m so tired.

Why is it that in the majority of BL manhwa, the ML always has to be an absolute asshole while the MC is written as the good, patient, and understanding one who constantly tolerates his bullshit?
Like, can’t they just create a BL where BOTH characters are messy? If the ML is going to be a red flag, let the MC be a red flag too. They don’t always have to make one character clearly more likable, morally superior, or “better” than the other.
I’m honestly getting tired of the same formula. The ML is toxic, emotionally unavailable, rude, or treats the MC terribly, while the MC is always the green flag who keeps enduring everything and somehow remains patient and understanding. Then, toward the end, the ML suddenly starts yearning, chasing, regretting everything, and everyone is supposed to be satisfied because “look, he finally fell harder.”
Like, PLEASE.
Why can’t we have two people who genuinely yearn for each other from the beginning? Let BOTH of them be obsessed. Let BOTH of them chase each other. Let BOTH of them be flawed. If they’re both assholes, then let them be assholes together. If they’re both emotionally unstable, give me TWO emotionally unstable men. I want mutual yearning, mutual obsession, mutual pining, and two characters who are equally invested in each other.
I don’t need the MC to be the endlessly patient saint while the ML gets to behave however he wants and then earn forgiveness simply because he eventually starts chasing after him.
Sometimes I just want a BL where neither character is obviously “the good one” and neither of them has to spend half the story tolerating the other’s bullshit.
Is that really too much to ask? Because this whole “toxic ML + angelic MC + ML eventually regrets everything and chases him” formula is starting to feel so repetitive. I’m tired.
